Cavitation normally causes severe damage in hydraulic machinery such as pumps and valves. However, cavitation impact can be used for surface enhancement as same way as shot peening. The peening method using cavitation impacts are called “cavitation shotless peening (CSP)” as shots are not required . Quantitative evaluation of small cracks in stainless steel under water which was use to simulate the environment of u nclear reactor was demonstrated. The crack depth was evaluated by the means of the microwave dual frequency technique , and the crack closure stress was estimated based on the compliance technique.
